Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was in the television screen as Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. She did not explore acting as a profession after reaching adulthood because her parents were concerned about the adverse impact stress might have. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. Her first acting experience was at Northwestern University to gain friends as she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career with New York after graduation, landing minor role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and pursue a career as an actress in the theater. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother on stage in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. She performed with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC drama The Family, in 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC Drama Scandal. She also played her younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - an CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character she got the role via an audition.
